BSA Space, Boston’s only center for architecture and design, seeks curatorial proposals for its 2018—2019 exhibition season. The deadline to submit is Friday, April 15, 2016.
BSA Space features over 7,000 square feet of gallery space for creative explorations of the potential for design to engage community, inspire vision, and to provoke positive change. BSA Space is home to the Boston Society of Architects/AIA (BSA) and the BSA Foundation (Foundation). BSA Space produces exhibitions and programs that unite the public and the design profession in a common understanding of the aesthetic, economic, and social impact of architecture, design, and the built environment on Greater Boston and the wider world.
Submitted proposals will be reviewed by the Foundation’s Exhibitions Committee (the Committee), which is composed of museum professionals, Foundation board members, and community representatives. After the review phase, the Committee will select the designers or design teams that will be responsible for conceiving, fabricating, executing, and installing this season's major exhibitions at BSA Space. Selected designers will work closely with BSA/Foundation staff to develop content, format, and related programming, in accordance with BSA and AAM exhibition guidelines. Major exhibitions run 4-6 months, and are intended to utilize all of the second floor gallery space. Guest curators will be given a budget of $30K-$70K, depending upon the size, scale and preparation, which will include all exhibition expenses, including materials, fabrication, installation, curator fees, and fees for any portion of this work contracted out.
BSA Space welcomes a diverse audience, and our exhibitions are targeted both towards a design-loving public as well as design professionals. Exhibition content should be communicated in such a way as to appeal to visitors with a wide range of backgrounds and design knowledge, and learning styles.
